“A frame is a set of beliefs and assumptions that you carry in your head to help you understand and negotiate some part of your world. The goal of this analysis is to assess leadership concepts from multiple angles, with a focus on the four-frame model (Bolman, L.G., & Deal, T.E., 2014) of leadership, and correlate this to the main characters’ leadership style. Each character has distinct leadership traits, which fit into different frames and leading concepts.
Through this lens, we see how the concepts of leadership are portrayed in the plot and what we can understand from them. Afro-descendants and women faced discrimination and they could only obtain lower-level positions. This concerns housing, medical care, public transportation, education, and employment. Racism and sexism were still present in the US at that time.
It is centered on the desire of the United States to beat out Russia and be the first nation to launch a man into space. The film takes place in the 1960s in Hampton, Virginia. Now, I had the pleasure to watch it for the second time, but with a different approach: exploring the concepts of leadership from different perspectives and academic models. It promptly became one of my favorite movies, partly due to how it addresses racial segregation and gender inequality issues. I watched Hidden Figures for the first time at the movie theater when it was released in 2017.
